Abstract. Global emissions of the ozone-depleting gas HCFC-141b (1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane, CH3CCl2F) derived from measurements atmospheric mole fractions increased between 2017 and 2021 despite a fall in reported production consumption for dispersive uses. is controlled substance under Montreal Protocol, its phase-out currently underway, after peak developing (Article 5) countries 2013. If are correct, our study suggests that 2017–2021 rise due to an increase bank when appliances containing reach end their life, or not Regional have been estimated 2017–2020 all regions where sufficient sensitivity emissions. This includes northwestern Europe, east Asia, United States Australia, decreased by total 2.3 ± 4.6 Gg yr?1, compared mean global 3.0 1.2 yr?1 over same period. Collectively these only account around 30 % 2020. We able pinpoint source specific activities responsible recent emission rise.
